Little Man

How did they make him so small?

The Wayans brothers (writer/director Keenen Ivory and writers/actors Shawn and Marlon of White Chicks and the Scary Movie franchise) grind out another hip-hop farce in questionable taste. What’s truly amazing — or grotesque — are the special effects that transform Marlon into an infant-sized midget. This stunning spectacle almost supersedes the story about “Baby Face” Calvin, a bank-robbing thug posing as an abandoned neonate to retrieve a priceless diamond from an unwitting, and child-starved, couple. The Edwardses (Shawn and the lovely Kerry Washington) can’t quite figure out why Calvin is so well hung and possesses a full battery of teeth, and Calvin can’t quite score the diamond — or so the jerky dance of cheap gags and forced feelings goes. Chazz Palminteri punches in as the head heavy; Molly Shannon is priceless as a crazed soccer mom.

For 50 years, Alvin and the Chipmunks have been driving parents nuts with their helium-infused banter and shrill bastardizations of pop music.
  •   REVIEW: TRESPASS  |  October 13, 2011
If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
