A new book looks at the golden age of international movie marketing

In Poland, posters became a full-fledged art form under communist rule. Polish designers used painterly surrealist imagery, making the American product look a lot darker than it actually was. Staunchly anti-commercial, they felt no pressure to include images of celebrities, a practice that had become standard in the US before the First World War. Above, a poster for Some Like It Hot.
