The Haunting of Molly Hartley

A flimsy ghostly-possession puff piece

This flimsy ghostly-possession puff-piece gets one thing right: its evil is embodied by selfish, WASPY rich folk — though these greedy parasites please the eye a lot more than the pigs responsible for the meltdown on Wall Street.

Like the Molly (Haley Bennett) of the title, who after being stabbed by her (now) institutionalized mother has been shipped off to an elite prep school for a "fresh start." There she suffers migraines and sees things. Despite these problems, she has no trouble making friends with all her schoolmates — the hunky jock (Chace Crawford), the Jesus freak (Shanna Collins), the rebel punker (Shannon Marie Woodward). It's like a bad teen drama with a spook factor.

Producer-turned-director Mickey Liddell floods the film with an eerie score, and Bennett gets an emotional workout, but the only haunting thing about this hack work is its failure to make sense.
