And for those who care, the Best Supporting Actress Oscar will go to Penélope Cruz, the best thing in Vicky CristinaBarcelona. Only the African-American nominees in this category — Viola Davis in Doubt and Taraji P. Henson in Button — offer any competition, and they'll cancel each other out. Furthermore, like Winslet's Hanna, Cruz's spitfire Maria Elena fulfills the Oscar-friendly stereotype of women as over-sexed, mentally defective, and potentially homicidal. Some things don't change, no matter who's in the White House.
