VIDEO: The trailer for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Jon Lucas and Scott Moore must have a pathological hatred of the winter holidays. How else to explain the writing team's scripts for last year's inexplicably successful Four Christmases and now director Mark (Mean Girls) Waters's labored reworking of A Christmas Carol, where Dickens gets bent over by the ghost of Matthew McConaughey's once-promising career.
Marriage ("a magical crutch for the weak") receives the "Bah, humbug!" treatment, but McConaughey's Scrooge substitute, filthy rich (and filthy) fashion photographer Connor Mead, is less miser than sex-addicted shithead. He was once a nice kid, but that was before his parents died and left him in the custody of his lascivious Uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas, channeling Robert Evans).
Will Connor see the error of his ways before ruining the wedding of his brother Paul (Breckin Meyer)? Or find happiness with Jenny (Jennifer Garner), his childhood sweetheart? Lucas and Moore fail to make you care. Humbug!
