It’s true, Sonny turns 80 September 6. It’s not that I expected one of the non-stop two-plus hour shows of yore. But there are ways to pace a program that save a soloist’s energy without dragging the music. I didn’t pay for my ticket. Judging from the ovations that preceded and followed this nearly 90-minute set, the people who did were happy.
