Wow, are we jealous

Wow, are we jealous. From the minute WILCO announced their SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL at MASS MoCA, we’ve wanted to go in the worst way. Now we hear that local indie rockers BRENDA will be playing at least one 45-minute set there? Not fair! Apparently, MCKEENSTREET MUSIC label head GRAEME KENNEDY found a way to play Brenda’s upcoming full-length debut for Wilco frontman JEFF TWEEDY and Tweedy invited the band to play Solid Sound the next day. The show happens August 13 through 15. No word on when Brenda go on. Brenda’s Silver Tower is set for a June release on Mckeenstreet.

You remember the HOT DOGS? Punk outfit fronted by artist JEFF BADGER? Well, they’re sort of back. The new band is called TRANSMISSION DROP, and features the original players: TOM ABERCROMBIE on bass, PAT CORRIGAN on drums, ADAM BEAN on lead guitar, and Badger on vocals, keys, etc. But the sound’s all new. For a taste, check the June 1 release party for their debut EP.

JOE S. HARRINGTON is back. Portland’s foremost rock nerd — Biography hit him up for a Stones piece — is once again teaching a history of rock and roll class through Portland Adult Education. If you want to know everything about the genre’s origins through its permutations in indie and hip-hop, call 207.775.0432 and ask for Joe. The class runs nine Tuesdays, starting April 27.
