“The question of ‘Are we metal’ is not a question,” McMaster asserts. “Of course we are. You put our album on and it isn’t MGMT, it’s ridiculous guitar, double bass, screaming. Very by-the-numbers. But it’s interesting with metal and rules — how style and genre tend to have a lot more with what you don’t do. We don’t dress up or wear corpse paint, but musically, we keep the tenets central and try not to jump off the deep end — or ‘go off the rails,’ as you put it.”
