In 2000, Guru is inducted into the Boston Music Awards Hall of Fame for his large body of work with Gang Starr and Jazzmatazz. He had been nominated several times before, but had only one win, in 1993 (actually, he tied with Marky Mark for Outstanding Rap Act). In his acceptance speech, Guru tells the crowd, “I left Boston with just a duffel bag and a dream.”
