WEEN [Which Stage | Sunday, June 13 @ 5 p.m.]
The general rule of thumb at Bonnaroo is to begin chugging water when you wake up, mix in alcohol consumption throughout the day, and by the time the sun sets, you're shitted. But with an early-evening Ween set looming upon my rise from slumber, the temptation to reach right for the cooler won out. Equipped with a nice little buzz, I took to the concert area for a pleasant thrashing at the hands of Gene and Dean, the set's centerpieces residing in an assaulting version of "With My Own Bare Hands" and a crudely distorted "Voodoo Lady." They even managed to lay down the funk with a cover of Bowie's "Let's Dance" and honor a fan request for some down-home Tennessee yee-haw with "Piss Up A Rope." Would the set still have been enjoyable if I didn't risk dehydration first? Sure. Would I have sang along as loud or head-banged as hard as I did? Fuck no.
