THE XX [That Tent | Thursday, June 10 @ 11:30 p.m.]
After Neon Indian came another band that's rocketed from obscurity to acclaim in the past year: the xx. With minimal lighting accenting thin instrumentation and beautifully soft vocals, the duo carried over into their live act the delicacy that so defines their studio debut. This setup would no doubt translate elegantly to a club setting, where they could draw emotion out of the silence of a respectful audience. But here, the xx had their hushed thunder stolen by the echoes of a knocking electro set from LA Riots, spilling over from a mere hundred yards away. Sufficiently distracted, I filed out of the tent amid fellow ADD-stricken concertgoers set on exploring the grounds we would be calling home for the next three days.
