Whereas her online videos were once organic single-camera shots from her bedroom, MTV recently hooked her up with Marvel animator Tomm Coker for a 10-video comic series called "AudioQuest." In the three-minute clips, Capt. Lights is an intergalactic "audiophile" looking to "restore musical hope in the cosmos." In a cross between Aeon Flux and Star Wars, she fights Lotar, an evil music-hating villain who, like one Grand Moff Tarkin, enjoys destroying planets. The idea stemmed from a bio she distributed a few years ago that was packaged as a sci-fi comic book. Fan demand saw it eventually land on the merch table.
"We wanted the comic to be used on all social-media platforms," she explains, "and that's what came out of it. It's awesome."
High fives all around the basement lab.
