If that was Jaysaun's mid-career crisis, then he found his Corvette convertible in the shiny custom studio where he's sitting for this interview. For years he's been a cat whom other rappers want to politic with in labs like Waltz Audio on Boylston Street. Now, aspiring artists can pay his posse by the hour. At the same time, he has a zone where he can wrap his salacious solo follow-up, Kill Your Boss, and he's about to drop a video with in-house BNB director/editor Mike Distelkamp for the single "On Your Job." Jay claims he's not yet reached his prime, and as was the case with Special Teamz, chances are that few will beg to differ.
"A lot of things that have happened in my career have been my fault," he concludes, "but I'm always someone who has to learn the hard way. These are true stories that I tell — about the bitches, the strip clubs, the drugs, and all of that shit. Everything that I write about is who I am, and it comes with a price — I'm not proud of all the shit I've done. That's the penalty for writing about the shit you want to write about — it sends you on a particular route, and you have to deal with the fact that you set your life on that roller-coaster. But I don't feel like the ride is over. I'm more comfortable now than I've ever been before."
