Weary of the red tape in parks close to Boston, Shea contacted Boilard with the idea for the fest. Boilard presented him with Camp Stanica, a Polish outdoor rec club a few hundred yards from the house Boilard grew up in. He'd put on one show there — Mt. Eerie, over a crisp Thanksgiving weekend in 2006 — but nothing like what Shea had in mind. "They rent the place out for family functions," Boilard notes.
Campers — whose numbers will be capped at 200 (advance tickets are available online) — are encouraged to bring their own food and gear. What they will get is 24 hours of outdoor action, from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. Shea says full-on electric bands will go between 3 and 11 pm or so; that'll be followed by movies and all-night acoustic fireside jam sessions into the morning.
"It's going to be extremely fun, and I hope it does blossom into something bigger eventually," he adds. "But for now, I'm happy to have it be small enough that I don't have to get port-a-potties."
