Statik drops everything for Massholes. Although his schedule is booked with production work for everyone from frat rapper Mac Miller to hardcore vet Styles P, just last week he recorded nine tracks with Slaine in two days. And Reks has three Statik-assisted projects dropping in the next six months. The 1982 effort with Term was a particular homecoming and mile marker on their road to riches.
"It's crazy to think about the fact that we were both born at Lawrence General Hospital in the same year and have done what we've done in hip-hop," Statik points out. "We're also trying to show that the spirit of Gang Starr is still alive, and that hip-hop needs more real MC-producer duos."
"If it's about props, then I've accomplished almost all of my goals in hip-hop," adds Term. In addition to his own career, the entrepreneurial MC is pushing Lawtown affiliates including DJ Deadeye and hard-rock eclecticist Gauge. "I've been compared to some of the greatest rappers, I've been in XXL 20 or 30 times."
And his middle-school fans back in Roxbury? "I guess when people saw us rocking B-hats and Red Sox jerseys on MTV, it finally started to click."
