"Oh yeah, we'll feature a full line of whiskeys, along with tastings and whiskey-themed dinner parties," Casey said.

I assumed, particularly in light of the Station tragedy, that opening a club in Rhode Island would require lots more red tape than the Boston-based investors had dealt with in the past. Not so.

"Trust me, there's no stricter city to run a club than Boston, and of course we always play by the rules and do everything we gotta do to have everything 100 percent up to code."

Casey can't wait to see the Whiskey Republic in full bloom come this summer, with the waterfront deck wide open for lunch and dinner.

"The Whiskey Republic's mission statement summed it up best," Casey said. "Part-Irish pub, part-sports bar, and a whole lot of fun. We're happy to be here and we're ready to rock."
