Although it was amusing to see MTV squirm, the moral conundrum of the day came courtesy of Brown himself, who posted (and then promptly deleted) this on Twitter: "I'm so over people bringing this past sh*t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there bullsh*t!" Fair point — why has American pop culture extended its highest five to Sheen, a far less repentant lady hitter, but stayed mad at Chris Brown? Is it because we're huge racists? Do we like Rihanna better than anyone Sheen's waved a knife at? Was it our visceral reaction to the photos of Rihanna's face all busted up? Do we have room in our hearts to forgive only one awful fuck-up at a time?
My theory: it's because Charlie Sheen spent a solid week saying amazing shit and acting like a hilarious cartoon character, whereas Chris Brown still just sings kinda shitty songs. And, yeah, we're also huge racists.
