Giving back to the community that supported them is important to the whole band. But it's especially dear to Giessmann, whose struggles and triumphs with substance abuse give hope to the many creative people who walk through his door. "Someone told me very early on that if I was going to stay clean and sober, I was going to have to learn how to give back," says Giessmann on the phone following his Sunday night radio show on WTKK 96.9, Right Turn with Woody and Abby.
You never can pick your destiny. In the end, both Dan Zanes and Giessmann became radio stars, but just like Zanes never would have guessed his supercalifragilistic career change, it's likely that Giessmann never would have predicted that his appearances on the airwaves would beat the steady drum of sobriety.
At the Paradise, expect a celebration of Giessmann and Right Turn's achievements and of the music of the Del Fuegos, as well as a promise of continuing to help others.
