And like a few of their musical forefathers (the Verve, Suede/London Suede, the Charlatans UK), the band even had to alter their name shortly after formation. There's another Brother, an Australian Celtic tribal trio based in the United States. "When they realized we were quite good, they wanted a piece of the action," Newell says, drawing out his words like a young Liam. "Viva means 'long live' — we liked Viva Brother because back here in the UK that's what the fans scream back at us. It makes it a bit more personal."
Nomenclature is a small hurdle when you set out to change the world. "Rock and roll has already changed my life," says Newell. "It can yours if you want it to."
