FLAMING LIPS | 7 SKIES H3 (flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com, $5000, a USB in a real skull) |Back when I was a kid, musicians lobbied successfully to get record companies to stop selling CDs in wasteful "long-boxes." Now, hip indie musicians literally encase their music in deceased human beings - take that as a sign of whatever you will. Wayne Coyne and Co. acquired the remains of only 13 souls in order to embed a USB drive and sell it to their apparently insane fanbase - so chances are that, if you don't already have one of these, you're out of luck. The song itself is literally 24 hours long and sounds like the kind of half-assed bullshit that 24-hour long songs usually sound like, but like all snuff items there is surely a black market for this recorded music curio should you desperately desire to put this skull on your shelf.

If rock and roll is three chords and the truth, then the mutant genre offspring shoegaze can be summed up as one chord, three fuzzboxes, and a sullen, muttered bleat.
