2011 goes pop

BEYONCÉ, "COUNTDOWN" | BRITNEY SPEARS, "UNTIL THE WORLD ENDS" | NICKI MINAJ, "SUPER BASS" | RiRi wasn't the only superstar chick who knew that she had to make it pop if she wanted a paycheck in 2011. The pop landscape this year proved that we're living through a post-Gaga explosion of synth-drenched Euro-crunk, and this enlivened environment seems to have kept all three of these superstars with their eyes on the prize. The key ingredient is sheer exuberance, the ability to melt away the drudgery of our modern miasma and replace mental drudgery with the bouncing click-clack of sheer get-up-and-dance awesomeness.
