91_LANA DEL REY, "VIDEO GAMES" | Don't look at me, man. Lana Del Rey is like the Arab Spring: everyone was all hopeful at first, then shit started getting kinda weird and horrible, then it got too complicated and we all decided we'd wait 10 years before we tried to figure out if it was a good thing or not. (See Dan Weiss's interpretation on page 26.)
98_MGK FEAT. WAKA FLOCKA FLAME, "WILD BOY"| Machine Gun Kelly is a talented kid, but since he's an up-and-coming white rapper, we're morally obliged to make fun of him so he can throw it back in our faces when he's huge. Here goes: "Ha! Look at Opie over here! So, the white kid thinks he can rap, huh? What does MGK stand for, Mayberry Gangsta Kid? OK, son, here's the mic — try not to get any Hidden Valley Ranch on it!"
Note: turns out, somebody's doing a well-liked podcast called "Who Charted?" I have no claim on that title, and they're more than welcome to it, but I feel the need to point out that my columns have been around a couple of years longer. Thus, I am not a sucker MC.
