Primed 4 SXSW ’12

TEARIST | Listen: "Headless" | Although I marvel at the lack of fame bestowed upon New York's the Hundred in the Hands, attention now shifts to their Los Angeles doppelganger, Tearist, whose William Stangeland-Menchaca and Yasmine Kittles take their own boy/girl synthpop template and shake it up in a house-of-broken-mirrors mixer. The rough edges that jump out at first listen soon become endearing, since Tearist are more sonic anarchists fucking up the system with a no-wave ethos than any sort of nu-pop darlings. Sinister, enchanting music for indoor graveyards.
