State of the Union II boasts one of the most wide-ranging local lineups I've ever seen. There will be continuous action on two stages, with 10 acts scheduled to perform (along with re-entry for 21+ attendees, and $2 'Gansett tallboys! No excuses!). The Tower & the Fool could be onto something big with their forthcoming full-length debut (to be covered here in a few weeks). "Dive Bar" is a gem and has already unofficially carved a Song of the Year spot on our upcoming Best Music Poll ballot. It's no secret I'm a big fan of Six Star General (we did their latest record, Splinter, a few weeks back). Slick, Dan, and Kyle are at their all-time best lately (see "Curved Nerves" and "Sonic Boom"). Rochefort landed nimble wordsmith and Strange Famous Records rep Prolyphic — nice. And I'd bet this is the first time that Olneyville Sound System and the Famous Winters share a bill. And that's a good — make that great — thing for the local music community.

Bands and artists looking to reach Denny should drop a line to booking@wearethegeneralassembly.com. See you at Fête on the 13th.

The new EP by PVD trio Gertrude Atherton, Isle of Lost Skulls , is a gnarled beauty of a debut and proves to be well worth the wait. I have been eagerly anticipating this record since catching drummer Melanie Fuest, singer/guitarist Shannon Le Corre, and bassist Nicole Lagace in action a dozen or so times over the past year.
