In his own, gleefully idiosyncratic terms, Herring is a true romantic, and it's hard to imagine a more appropriate vessel for his grand gesticulations than Future Islands. The trio masterfully capture the nostalgia of the best new wave, and then warp it to serve their own thematic purposes. If that is what passes for originality these days — not to mention a band simply having a thematic purpose — I'll take it.
