In fact, Speedy Ortiz is informed mostly by bands like Polvo, Chavez, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, and her bandmates' love for angular guitars and late-'90s indie post-punk. They're a distinctly '90s Western Mass–inspired outfit — which might speak to why the native New Yorker just made the move to Northampton last fall. "I was really into a lot of the bands in Boston," said Dupuis. "Part of [moving to Massachusetts] was prompted by a desire to be closer to the bands that I felt were doing things more similar to what I was doing. I think Grass Is Green, Pile, Fat History Month, and Sneeze are really amazing bands that I'm happy to be able to play with more frequently than I would if I was in Brooklyn."
