So the DIY Fest is not aimed at any particular audience, and Saturday's event has been built with the mission to entertain all. Two stages — one electric and one acoustic — will boast some of the area's most talented bands, including CreaturoS, ABADABAD, Onslo, Kal Marks, Streight Angular, Dirty Virgins, and former locals Mornin' Old Sport, back in town from Oakland, California. In addition to music, this year's festival also displays more skillshares, workshops, and vendors than ever before. Everything from homemade crocheting to rape-defense clinics to a record swap is scheduled to ensure that one of Allston's largest community gatherings becomes even better this summer.
The Allston DIY Fest not only lets the neighborhood flex its muscles artistically, but shows that Allstonians care to let that creativity speak. Festival organizers have no pressing reason to become involved other than to have fun, broaden their interests, and help tie their community together, but they couldn't be more content with that. "The first year it was about us, and making our vision come to life," says Altieri. "This year, it's about the community."
