Looking at this list now, I realize that 2012 had somewhat of a theme for me. My favorite songs have all given me the feeling of being young, a little bit lost, but taking advantage of that and living it up. I've had such a whirlwind of a year – going from an WFNX weekender to a simple waitress when we went off the air, and then coming back full time to wfnx.com. Through it all I've really learned how great it can be sometimes to not know what's next. Japandroids, Frank Turner, Imagine Dragons, The Field Effect, Fun., and Walk The Moon have all embodied that sentiment in one way or another. Outside of that theme, I have to point out Macklemore's "Same Love.," a completely on point, brave acceptance of homosexuality, something I hardly ever hear in song, never mind rap. I think it needs to be brought to everyone's attention. Set the jokes aside for a second and appreciate an important message. I put "Anna Sun" at number one simply because I remember driving everywhere this summer with my windows rolled down, screaming that at the top of my lungs – "We got no money, but we've got our heart" – sounds exactly like my 2012.
