Best Music Poll 2013

By PHOENIX STAFF  |  December 12, 2013

After countless years of existence, the fact remains that Royal Hammer are a far better band than they need to be. Live reggae can completely fulfill its function just by being loud, thematically positive, and getting the reverb right. But Royal Hammer take it much further, setting a mood that doesn’t stray from the posi-vibes, but can also play comfortably with some psychedelic passages and darker tones thrown into the mix. They also play everywhere, and seeing them unexpectedly on any given night on the town has become a true Portland pleasure. |

Runners-up: Pubcrawlers, Primo Cubano, Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble
