Known in and outside the Boston folk-music community for her accessible, socially conscious songwriting and gorgeous voice, Catie Curtis returns here with her typical mix of insightful wit and pitch-perfect vocals. Focusing on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the emotionally charged “People Look Around” takes a broad view rather than preaching. It’s one of two songs written with fellow folkster Mark Erelli; there are also harmonies by Erin McKeown, Kris Delmhorst, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Curtis shines brightest on the softer, sparer tracks of an album pervaded by the lullaby atmosphere its title suggests.
