The benefit, for Black’s family after his accidental death September 7, had performances from NOT DEAD BUT SLEEPING, CRYPTIC OVERCAST, BREEDING STRENGTH, CLAYMORE MINDS, and COVERED IN BEES. We wish his friends and family all the best.
Much has been made of RYAN ADAMS’s unpredictability, and Monday night’s gig at the Merrill didn’t disappoint. After requesting numerous sound fixes and listening to incessant song requests and boorish, unfunny jokes from the seemingly well-meaning crowd, Adams gave up on his set with an hour remaining, knocking down his mic stand and stomping off stage. We feel bad for (most of) the paying customers, but hope that they, like us, have a newfound appreciation for what a badass Ryan Adams is.
