Although we’re still shivering in the icy depths of winter, things are heating up for Basstown Productions. During the final week in February, the promoters responsible for all kinds of DJ parties and dance events around the city, from “Make It New” to “Thunderdome,” are hosting a show, a movie, and a day-after party.

First up, this Saturday they’re bringing celebrated DJ/producer DIPLO to Great Scott for a show that already is officially sold out. Known for his vast collection of Carioca funk and ace (re)mixing skills, Diplo should serve up a raucous mix with plenty of unexpected shifts and twists. When asked what she hoped to hear from Diplo’s set, Basstown organizer Vicki Siolos answered: “God. . . . everything! A lot of baile funk and ZZT. The latter hasn’t really been played since the early fall because we are constantly keeping up with new music, but we at Basstown completely lose our shit over ‘Lower State of Consciousness.’ ”

Then, on Wednesday February 27, Basstown hosts the Boston premiere of the 2006 DAFT PUNK movie Electroma — the story of two robots’ quest to become human — at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square. That’s followed by a day-after — actually a night-after party on the 28th at the Middlesex, with MORGAN LOUIS of HEARTTHROB spinning a oui set of French house. For more information, check

Generating a very different form of sonic heat, the Dutch-born electronic musician and improviser JORRIT DIJKSTRA will be playing saxophone, analog synthesizer, and the Lyricon (an electronic sax-type wind instrument hooked up to a synth) with a fine “Improvisational Pool” of wind players (including nmperign’s Bhob Rainey) at Third Life Studios in Union Square. That’s this Saturday, the 23rd. Not bad for a week in February.

There are so many interesting and unusual musical happenings this week, it's almost more than this little column can bear.
Although composer JOHN CAGE is best known for 4'33" of silence, he could raise a ruckus when the mood struck.
