WHAT WERE YOUR INITIAL THOUGHTS AFTER RECORDING BEYOND? AND WILL DINOSAUR JR. ROAM THE EARTH FOREVER? After seeing how well the record was received and how well the touring went, I knew they'd do another studio record. I can see Dinosaur Jr. being around for a long time, especially with people digging the live shows.

DINOSAUR JR. + AWESOME COLOR | Club Hell, 73 Richmond Street, Providence | April 2 @ 7 pm | $25

Clobberin' time! The Rock Hunt Finals and much more
A few shows in town TONIGHT (the 2nd) following the early-bird Dinosaur Jr. gig at Club Hell — and speaking of old-timers rocking out — head to Nick-a-Nee's to catch NOU 40 (as in "No One Under 40), a new crew of jazzy blues and funk experts including alumni from the Pink Tuxedos and Roomful of Blues. Another freebie finds expert bluesmen SIT DOWN BABY at the Greenwich Hotel (401.884.4200) in East Greenwich, and the Blackstone (401.726.2181) fires up a busy weekend starting with a free gig hosted by local pop-rock vets SHYRNE, with THE HELP and BIG TALL BUILDINGS supporting, while on FRIDAY (the 3rd) the sugar-coated sounds of MINKY STARSHINE & THE NEW CARDINALS, promoting their latest disc, Unidentified Hit Record, with Lincoln's STALEMATE, RED HOT 45, and NYC's VOLUNTEERS in tow. Sunset Bar & Grille hosts THE SHE-TLES, an all-female Beatles tribute featuring Heather Rose (as Paul) for $5 at the door, call 401.726.8889. Hit the Newport Blues Cafe (401.841.5510) for a show with Ken Lyon's blues brothers TOMBSTONE, or check out SOUL SHOT and GROW at the Ocean Mist (401.782.3740). ROUTE .44 are back on the road and play the Blackstone on SATURDAY (the 4th) with help from THE 'MERICANS and CHRIS ROSENQUEST; $7 at the door or a $10 admission that includes a copy of their new album, This Is My America. Get out early and catch the WBRU ROCK HUNT FINALS at Lupo's (401.331.5876). The music starts at 6 pm and includes a final-four showdown between BAYLOCK, FAIRHAVEN, FOR THE LOVE OF SLOANE, and THE VIENNAGRAM. Tickets are $7, call 401.331.5876. On WEDNESDAY (the 8th), THE SUPERCHIEF TRIO continue their boogie-blues residency at Nick-a-Nee's with Thom Ferarro, and SUNNY CROWNOVER joins legendary blues six-string slinger DUKE ROBILLARD in an intimate performance at the Speakeasy at Local 121.
