Hope springs Eternal Otter

• We're not sure if anyone got a chance to catch OLAS at the Pepper Club last week, but do yourself a favor and get down to the Hogfarm Studios Annex in Biddeford to see them on December 18. Featuring FIRE ON FIRE's CHRISS SUTHERLAND and TOM KOVACEVIC, along with GRUPO ESPERANZA's DYLAN BLANCHARD and CONIFER's LEIF SHERMAN CURTIS, plus dancers MOLLY ANGIE and ANNA TRUNZO, they do worldly music like you just haven't seen before around here, with Arabic, African, Cuban, and many other influences all tied up in a wholly organic mix. Very cool.

• The new ROY DAVIS record is set for January 23 release at SPACE Gallery. Should be a doozy.

• Big plans from ETERNAL OTTER RECORDS. January 29 will see a label showcase for the release of a series of vinyl singles "collected around the idea of bands that have broken up, lost a member, or reformed under a new line-up." Thus, there will be recordings from CERBERUS SHOAL (on hiatus, we think), LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER paired with former bandmate TJ METCALFE, and a Portsmouth group called BLAQUE BOOSE (we know nothing about them, sorry). Also let it be known that DOMINIC LAVOIE will take up BUILDING OF SONG residency in January.

• Did anyone see RAY LAMONTAGNE play the tree-lighting ceremony at the WHITE HOUSE? Surreal.
