Local luminaries’ picks

A sample of other best songs of the 2000s
By SAM PFEIFLE  |  December 22, 2009

I asked a bunch of people who really dig local music to help me make sure I wasn’t leaving any songs out when I was developing my list of the best 10 songs of the 2000s, but then I quickly realized that “best” is about as subjective as things come when you’re talking about songs. So I thought I’d just list all the responses here for you and hope you take some time to go back and check out those songs you may have missed that rocked other people’s worlds.

More Decade in Review

READ: Sam Pfeifle's " ‘Hit the Ground’: Portland’s Top 10 songs of the decade "

READ: Charlie Gaylord's " Albums of the decade: 10 discs you should own"

Here were their instructions:

Let me know the name of one song that you think anyone developing a list of the best local songs of the 2000s would be a total moron to leave out.

Really, just one song. I know it’s hard. Just pick that song you totally love and listen to all the time. Don’t worry about whether it’s technically brilliant or completely original or has the smartest lyrics you’ve ever heard. Just pick that one song that you’re always introducing people to, or that you make sure to put on every mix, or the one that has the most plays on your iPod. It’s not rocket science, it’s just your favorite song.

Please comment as soon as you read this. Don’t think about it too much. Just comment and give me the name of the song and the name of the band. Do it.

Here’s what I got back:
