An aural adventure

Wandering Eye
Congratulations to Kevin and the folks at Cats in Paw¬tucket, who are celebrating their 10th anniversary this week. Their success has certainly defied the odds during a decade in which clubs have struggled to survive. The management’s commitment to local music, usually high in decibels, is second to none in the area, and the place deserves everyone’s patronage. On Saturday, you can catch a great bunch of locals — Mastamindz, SKULLTOBOGGAN, INNER SELF LOST, and WRECKLESS INTENT, plus 30 PACK JACK from NYC. Call 401.722.0150.

The Mediator, 50 Rounds Street, Providence, is hosting a show this Friday with CHRIS ROSENQUIST, the CHRIS MONTI TRIO, and RYAN FITZSIMMONS. Also on Friday, THE DANSETTES, the vintage R&B/soul girl trio I mentioned last week, is actually playing Jake’s this week. The Wyld Card DJs also appear, which will make it boogie heaven. Call 401.453.5253. Jeri & the Jeepsters take over the Elbow Room on State Street in Bristol on Friday. Call 401.253.5916. In Warwick on Friday (April 21) at the Rocky Point Pub, it’s quality original tuneage with Best Music Poll nominees Someday Providence and the Audiocentrix. On Saturday (April 22) at the same place it’s alt-rock with Witz End. Call 401.739.9800. On Saturday at Houlihan’s in East Providence, 75 or Less presents a night of hipster rock with Cholo, SIX STAR GENERAL, THE SQUIZZLES, and SPACE CAPTAIN. Call 401.435.4044. On Wednesday (April 19) at AS220, there’s a worthwhile benefit show for the Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and this year’s campaign is to “Get Men Involved in Ending Sexual Violence.” Try this stat on: One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. VAZ, THE BUTCHERING, SWEETTHIEVES, SPHERES, and MMMs LIVE ARCHICE WITH MICHELLE MARCHESE will donate their time for the benefit, which begins at 8 pm sharp. To learn more about the cause,visitwww.satrc.org. Next Thursday
(Arpil 27), Blizzard of 78, will celebrate the release of their new album, Where All Life Hangs, at Jake’s. THE SUPERCHIEF TRIO opens the show at 10 pm, then BO78 plays, and the night will end with a set of cover songs featuring the band and special guests Mark Cutler, Eric Fontana, Eric Barao (the Cautions), Terry Linehan, Ted Rao, and others. Sounds like a great night of music, and there’s no cover.
