“The J the S you see now tries to not be too cool for school,” says Snake, who is sincere despite dipping into the third person here and there. “I’m not corny or too hard, or too extreme in any one realm, because I’m trying to reach all people. Sure, I’ve dissed some hipster rappers, but I also make a lot of songs that girls can dance to.”
A fervent student of The Art of War, Snake has a hard-thought battle strategy for his coming slither into greater consciousness. He’s been chasing the release of his new, free Wish You Were Here mixtape with tour stops in Miami, Los Angeles, and Austin at SXSW. With that buzz behind him, he plans to unveil his epic Last Days LP later this year — and for good measure, he has a video for “Handcuff Sex” dropping, in which porn star Jayla Starr duct-tapes and abuses him. Interesting move from a guy who changed his name to J the S for fear people might think he was a porn star. But now he figures all publicity is good publicity, so long as nobody confuses him with the other Snake.
“It’s an emotional roller-coaster. I hope everyone gets on my side for this fight in the last days. This is the big one. I feel like I’m battling Terminators in the club, with Afrika Bambaataa spinning in the background.”
