11. BRINGING BASS TO PUBLIC SPACE
The Hub's Ewens, after hours, is a star in Providence's underground arts scene.
Among his recent provocations: "Bringing Bass to Public Space," wherein Ewens, aka DJ Lively Experiment, throws outdoor dance parties with ceramicist David Allyn's alter ego Unkle Thirsty, a New Jersey-based DJ and hustler extraordinaire who makes his way up to Rhody whenever he can get away from his parole officer.
This summer, the DJs invited food and beer purveyors to join them for several city-approved throwdowns in India Point Park.
But the pair does not always seek the blessing of the city fathers. Hence, a series of guerilla-style parties in abandoned mill spaces — using DJ carts powered by bicycles, batteries, and no small measure of mischief.
