Election whoas

By SHAY STEWART-BOULEY  |  November 11, 2010

Going back to the '50s, there is no clear trend for what kind of governor Mainers will pick. It's moved back and forth, over and over, from Democrats to Republicans to independents. There's been one of each now in just my relatively short time living here. This is a state that has, since 1992, voted in only Democratic presidents, and so it's often seen as a "blue" state. But we're also a state with two female Republican senators. We're a state that legalized medical marijuana while also rejecting same-sex marriage.

I don't always agree with the political winds in this state, but I do like the scent on the air that Mainers will vote what they believe before they get in line behind a single party, a single message, or a single set of expectations.
