Sifting for substance in Scott Brown's memoir

None of this openness extends to his political career, which is stuffed quickly into the final pages of the book. Toward the very end, he lays out his "core set of beliefs," but they are just vague pablum: government is too big; there are too many laws and regulations; taxes are too high; government debt is too high; a strong military is good; and people should be able to find jobs.

Nothing that will cost him politically — or draw any attention during the book tour. Brown has managed to over-expose himself while remaining the political blank slate that he presented to voters a year ago.
