• Meanwhile, Maine farmer Jim Gerritsen's FIGHT AGAINST AGRIBUSINESS GIANT MONSANTO continues (see "Seeds of Evil," by Deirdre Fulton, December 2, 2011). Monsanto has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of 300,000 organic and non-GMO farmers against Monsanto's seed-patenting practices.
A judge at the Thurgood Marshall US Courthouse will hear oral arguments on Tuesday, January 31, in New York City; because only a small number of people will be able to fit inside the courtroom, the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (of which Gerritsen serves as president) is planning a "citizens' assembly" outside the courthouse.
