To end on a more positive note, we know Johnny C. is now rolling his Red Sox tattoo through heaven behind the wheel of a Caddy . . . and people are still probably waving and calling out his name. Our sadly belated sympathies to his wife and family.

So how many times have you heard people grumbling that they are disappointed in President Obama, but are loathe to vote for the far-right Republican agenda? That would make you (like P&J) a dreaded "progressive." There are other options out there — no, not Ralph Nader this time — and if you'd like to get an idea of what one of them looks and sounds like, you'll have an opportunity on August 18.

That's when Jill Stein, the presidential candidate for the Green Party, will be in Providence as the headliner at a "Rally for Jobs, Peace and Planet." It's at the Roger Williams National Memorial at 282 North Main Street in the capital city at 3 pm. Along with Ms. Stein, Abel Collins, the independent Rhode Island Congressional candidate, will be speaking along with a few other progressive candidates and speakers.

Entertainment will be "The Duopoly Jalopoly," a production by the Biggest Little's famous Big Nazo troupe.
