• Just this week, the Portland City Council unanimously adopted the "Complete Streets" policy, which will ensure that land use and "transportation context" (i.e., multiple types of transit) are taken into account when we build and maintain local roads. Among other goals, the Complete Streets program aims to enhance safe walking and bicycling routes for schoolchildren, reduce congestion, and incorporate aspects of previous studies such as Portland's Peninsula Transit Plan from 2009. At the top of the list: improving Franklin Avenue, Forest Avenue, and Outer Congress Street. Let's hope Complete Streets energy moves some of these projects from (seemingly eternal) planning mode to full implementation in 2013.
