Breaking into the business

By MIKE MILIARD  |  September 6, 2006

The 14 podcasts Buice and Crumley put online have been downloaded more than half a million times. Obviously, not every one of those viewers is going to see the movie on the big screen. But some will want to. Those people can “request” a screening by filling out a short form on the Web page: once there are 150 requests in a particular city, they can book a screening there. (Boston, with 266 requests, is third behind New York and LA.) You can even see the MySpace page for everyone who requested it. Says Buice, “I think the rules of engagement are definitely changing. And it has to do with having a direct relationship with your audience.”

Four-Eyed Monsterswill screen every Thursday in September at 7:30 pm at Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, in Somerville, as part of the Independent Film Festival of Boston. Call 617.625.5700.
