As for Patrick, the prediction here is that he’s cultivating a bifurcated relationship between the media, with the cynics and naysayers on one side and the journalistic elect — i.e., those who Patrick decides actually get what he’s trying to accomplish — on the other. Early in the campaign, Patrick gave the press a taste of what it’s like to be in his good graces; now he’s got them wondering if they’ll be stuck on the outside looking in. His wager may be that it’s more useful to have a few passionate supporters in the media than to get along reasonably well with everybody. If that’s the case, time will tell if he’s right.
