Certainly, the extended Caprio family can be expected to become a common sight as the campaign season heats up in earnest and Caprio pursues his run for general treasurer. In discussing his vision for the office, Caprio expresses a desire to post state spending and major contracts online and in real time, a model that might be emulated by cities and towns, and to ensure that “the best and brightest” are monitoring the state pension fund.
If he wins election, Caprio will be on the shortlist of possible future Democratic gubernatorial candidates, along with Cicilline, Attorney General Patrick Lynch, and state Senator Elizabeth Roberts (D-Cranston), the party’s candidate this year for lieutenant governor. In running for treasurer, “I don’t think we have a better candidate, in every sense of the word” says Bill Lynch, a person who knows a thing or two about being in a political family. “We’re lucky to have someone of his age and his talent who’s willing to dedicate himself to public service.”
As far as the future, “I think Frank and David, if they want to, have tremendous upside,” Lynch says. “They’re young, they’re talented, their aggressive, they’re obviously well-known. I think it’s really a matter of where do they see themselves and what do they want to do. Time will tell.”
