Maybe. But after the Snelgrove fiasco, Menino and Davis can’t expect the city to simply accept the official explanation. Nor can they expect residents to cooperate more with investigations, or accept the good intentions behind new tactics, when the trust level is so low. Bending over backward to repair and rebuild community relations just might be the key to better policing, and a safer city.
