Spite the power

By CHRIS FARAONE  |  May 11, 2009

Before the parade, at-large Boston City Councilor and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon addressed onlookers. Standing on the bed of a pickup truck with meringue playing lightly in the background, Yoon competently rallied the crowd, even introducing himself in Spanish before airing the afternoon's message: "Immigrants built this city, and I'm proud to be an immigrant. That's why so many people are walking today — even in the rain — because immigrant rights are human rights."

Councilor Yoon is right, and we would have followed, but work needed to be done. Like most businesses around here, Phoenix offices were open on May Day.
