Bills, it seems, will remain unpaid for some time. But Bryan Belmore, who has worked as production manager for the festival for the last five years, said the staff is concerned about more than paychecks.
"We all love the festival," he said. "It's a great opportunity to see film that you may never see elsewhere."
If the festival continues to flounder, that film may not screen in Newport either.
