Sending more troops to Afghanistan would be a huge mistake. The smart thing to do would be to make that crystal clear.
A noble choice
Obama’s receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize has the surreal feel of a Stephen Colbert moment. Strip aside the incongruity of the president’s still brief time in office, however, and what remains is the hope — expressed as an almost international verdict — that diplomacy can make a difference. It is a rejection of the bad-old-days of Bush. Putting more boots on the ground in Afghanistan is not the way for Obama to realize the award’s promise.
